When I was younger, I never thought that I would pursue a degree in Fashion Merchandising. I liked clothes and fashion, but I wasn’t creative or artistically inclined enough to become a designer. It wasn’t until I was in the 10th grade that I discovered the vast opportunities found in the fashion industry. I found the YouTube channel SushiRockStar. I enjoyed her fashion and beauty videos, and eventually found out that she was working as a buyer. I began researching fashion careers and was surprised by how much I found. There are creative careers such as designing and styling, but there are also many business careers in the form of public relations and marketing. I’ve considered doing a lot of these careers and have yet to decide on which one. Here are some of the fashion careers that I am considering.

Fashion Buyer
A buyer is someone that decides and purchases the apparel and accessories found in retail stores. They visit showrooms and attend trade shows in order to decide what items will appear in their stores. This is my number one choice for a career. I love the analytical side as well as the opportunity to travel and attend shows.

Kylie Jenner from the 2015 MTV VMA's
Stylist
Have you seen the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards? The outfits worn by the celebrities on the red carpet, as well as on stage were chosen by stylists. Stylists select outfits for public appearances made by celebrities and public figures, editorial prints, music videos, concerts, and other types of events.  I love putting together outfits. From observing and speaking with wardrobe stylists in the industry, it seems like something I could thrive in.

Fashion Publicist
A fashion publicist is responsible for managing a brand or company’s image. They are responsible for creating a favorable relationship between the consumer and the company. They set up fashion shows and events. They also connect with stylists to pair brands with certain celebrities. It’s their job to make sure their client is presented in the best light possible.

There are so many other careers in the fashion industry including being a fashion forecaster, fashion magazine editor, store manager, social media coordinator, event planner, visual merchandiser, advertising manager, and the list goes on and on. Just know that if you are interested in fashion as a career, there is a job out there for you! Are you interested in a career in fashion? Tell me in the comments below!

Feminine Edgy

Selena Gomez’s style is what I like to call Casual Chic. I would say this is parallel to my own personal style. It's the perfect blend of comfort and fashion forwardness that exudes grace and style. Of her recent street style looks, this one is my favorite. It takes two of the hottest trends, the pleated skirt and the longtime trend, the crop top, and combines them to create a casual look with feminine and edgy undertones. My favorite thing to do is to play with texture and fabric. Mixing two fabrics instantly makes your outfit more stylish. Especially playing up traditional feminine and masculine elements. A great way to do this is to pair a sweet lace top with a moto jacket.

Selena Capeing

This next look uses capeing which is a popular look featured on celebrities and on the runway. It’s also another way to completely elevate an outfit without doing a whole lot of work. This is honestly my number one tip if you want to look instantly more expensive or put together. I love how EASY it is. This also similar to one of Fall 2015’s trends, the "No Hands" Look. It’s been featured on the runway from Nina Ricci to Stella McCartney. The look has been styled as having sleeves that extend past the arm, but capeing provides a more subdued version of this trend. It hides, yet accentuates a part of the body. In capeing, the look hides the shoulders while making them more noticeable and your outfit more structured. I’ll go deep into depth of all of this season’s hottest trends in an upcoming post.

Selena All Black

Lastly I am loving this monochromatic all-black ensemble. Wearing all black is as slimming as it is chic. The high neckline of the top is on trend, while being easy to wear. This is a great example of how easy it can be to incorporate trends in your everyday life. What trends do you want to try? What was your favorite look? Tell me in the comments below!

Jade
Welcome to my blog! I am a 21 year old fashion student who loves to share trends and style tips! I grew up in a suburban city near Atlanta, GA. I started this blog as a way to express my thoughts, opinions, and advice. I always had an interest in fashion that started at an early age. Like most little girls I spent countless hours playing with my favorite dolls and choosing which stylish outfit they would wear next. However, I never really outgrew that passion, it only seemed to evolve. Instead of thinking about what clothes my dolls would wear I would ponder the same question for me, family, and friends.

Clothes and magazines were always something I loved and I decided to make it my career. Currently I’m attending Georgia Southern University to pursue a degree in Fashion Merchandising. Along with fashion, I love to travel. The wanderlust is real. Sometimes I just get in my car and drive and see what new place I can explore. College is supposed to be one of the most exciting times in your life and I want to capture it through my passions and experiences. I hope you’ll join me for the ride!
